Let Us Shock You! Multidisciplinary Team Approach to Cardiogenic Shock Improves Patient Outcomes and Reduces Complications

Purpose: Cardiogenic shock (CS) patients experience high mortality, complication rates, and require resource-intensive care. Modes of care delivery with proven benefit for these patients have become increasingly complex and reliant on temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) devices. Our team felt it was critical to develop a quality scorecard to demonstrate meaningful improvements in survival to tMCS explant and discharge by enacting protocol-driven, physician-led, nurse coordinated care for CS patients [1].
