Primary Graft Dysfunction: Shifting from Static Grading to Temporal Classification

Purpose: Primary Graft Dysfunction (PGD) is an umbrella term that encompasses different pathophysiological mechanisms leading to lung edema in the early stages after lung transplantation (LTx). Current PGD grading is based on the assessment at fixed timepoints within the first 72 hours post-LTx, and this static grading does not reflect the underlying disease patterns resulting in PGD. Therefore, we propose a temporal PGD classification aiming to capture the dynamic evolution of PGD severity over time.
