Incidence, Predictors and Outcomes of Non-Home Discharge Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A Multicentre Australian Experience – The NHD TAVI Study

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has emerged as a cornerstone intervention for patients with severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS). A considerable number of TAVI recipients experience non-home discharge (NHD),1-5 a phenomenon traditionally associated with increased health-care utilisation, morbidity and mortality.6 TAVI patients may be particularly vulnerable to NHD given they are often over the age of 80, co-morbid and frail.7 For patients unable to return home following NHD, outcomes can be devastating leading to physical disability and psychological harm.
