What lessons are learned?

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic disorder (1:50,000-100,000 in the United States) characterized by unpredictable and recurrent episodes of swelling without hives in different parts of the body.1 Generally, it is caused by a deficiency or a loss of function of C1 esterase inhibitor (C1 INH) because of a mutation in SERPING1.1 Moreover, HAE can lead to significant morbidity including death because of laryngeal swelling and asphyxia.1,2 There is a limited number of published case series.
