Brachytherapy Plaque Removal in Office
Plaque brachytherapy is the most common globe-sparing treatment for uveal melanoma. The plaque is removed several days after adequate radiation has been delivered to the melanoma.1 The McCannel Plaque stitch offers a convenient removal technique of the plaque that can be performed in the operating room or in the office with local anesthesia.2 A 2-0 silk suture acts as a “handle suture” and is tied to one of the central eyelets of the plaque. Two vicryl sutures are placed in the sclera and are looped through the eyelets of the plaque flange.
