UROCORTIN 1 (UCN 1) as a possible biomarker in differentiation of endometriosis stage and distinguishing its deep infiltration phenotype

Introduction and aims of the study: Endometriosis is a chronic, estrogen-dependent disease characterized with the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Its etiology is multifactorial and depends on coexistence of immune, genetic, as well as environmental factors. Due to the Urocortin 1 (Ucn1) expression in various parts of the female genital tract i.e. endometrium, its role in disease pathophysiology is suspected. The aim of our study was to investigate the concentrations of Ucn1 in blood and peritoneal fluid samples in women with endometriosis and to find correlations between Ucn1 and immune cells or cytokines.
