Leveraging Serious Video Games to Transform HIV Prevention and Care for Adolescents and Young Adults: The Case for PlayTest!

HIV/AIDS remains a major global health epidemic with 630,000 deaths in 2022 and 39 million people living with HIV at the end of 2022 (0.7% of 15- to 49-year-old individuals worldwide) [1]. Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) continue to face disparities in the testing, diagnosis, and treatment of HIV compared to adults. In the United States, AYAs (between 13 and 24  years of age) account for approximately 20% of new HIV infections in any given year and half of AYAs who are infected with HIV do not know they have it [2].
