Patients with surgically repaired ASD in childhood: living happily ever after?
It has been over 30 years since the publication of the first comprehensive cohort study of patients with surgical repair of atrial septal defects (ASD) [1]. In the renowned study from the Mayo Clinic, individuals with ASD repaired at a pediatric age demonstrated an overall positive outcome, with low mortality rates and a reduced incidence of supraventricular arrhythmias at 30 years in comparison to those operated later in life.
