Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm with Horseshoe Kidney

A Horseshoe Kidney (HSK) is a rare anatomic anomaly, with a prevalence of 0.12 percent, that poses significant challenges in the repair of concomitant abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). HSK requires operative planning with careful evaluation of not only the patient ’s comorbidities, but also the anatomic variations of HSK which include renal perfusion patterns and anomalous accessory renal arteries. Historically, HSK have been classified into five types based on the anatomy of the renal arteries which can be from the aorta, common iliac, hypogastric, or medi an sacral arteries.
