Con: Implementation Science is not relevant to Cardiothoracic Surgery and Anesthesiology

The field of Implementation Science (IS) was introduced in the 1960s to address the delay between the establishment of evidence-based recommendations for clinical practice and the widespread adoption of these recommendations1. The principles upon which IS is based, however, do not apply in cardiothoracic surgery and anesthesiology. It is simply not possible in this field to establish a convincing body of literature on which to base clinical practice decisions in the operating room. There are a multitude of factors that make cardiac surgery and anesthesiology impossible to standardize.
