Parkinson Disease: A painful realization

A confession is in order: We have not been paying enough attention at how pain in Parkinson Disease (PD) contributes to disease-related reduction in quality of life. In fact, it is only in recent years that we have been gathering enough information to measure, classify and treat the many nonmotor symptoms present in patients with parkinsonian disorders. There are likely many reasons for this lag. But we must agree that upon assuming the primary role of caring for patients with Movement Disorders, we do so with the understanding that they have motor and non-motor symptoms that require our unbiased attention.
