Functional neurological disorders and Parkinson's disease – A new research agenda?

We read with interest the article by Delgado and colleagues that delved into the intricate relationship between FND and PD [1]. The study investigated the presence of functional motor disorders (FMDs), a subtype of functional neurological disorder (FND), in a cohort of 56 Parkinson's disease (PD) patients from five Movement Disorders Units in Spain. The study identified 28 patients who shared both FMD and PD (FMD-PD patients) and confirmed the findings of a few prior studies indicating the predominance of women in the condition, the more frequent occurrence of functional symptoms on the body side most affected by PD, and the lack of effect of antiparkinsonian medication on FMD [1].
