Euphoria Created by Sam Levinson. HBO Entertainment; 2018

Euphoria is a teenage drama TV series that has become wildly popular with the younger generations. As the name suggests, substance use is a core theme explored by high school student characters in the show, along with multiple other explicit topics including suicide, toxic relationships, and child pornography. Although the show is clearly rated for a mature audience (MA) and has a warning alerting viewers of its explicit content at the beginning of every episode, conversations with teenagers and an exploration of the 335 “kids” reviews on commonsensemedia.org strongly suggest that youth of middle school and high school age are not under-represented in the show’s avid fan base.
