End-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by a considerable symptom burden, functional impairment, and reduced quality of life, similar to that experienced by patients with lung cancer.1 Therefore, COPD management guidelines recommend involving palliative care (PC) teams in the management of patients with end-stage COPD.2
