Dupilumab strengthens herpes simplex virus type 1 –specific immune responses in atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (AD), one of the most prevalent chronic inflammatory skin diseases, is orchestrated by a complex pathophysiology influenced by the immune system and skin barrier; it is influenced by environmental factors.1 Altered immune response is marked by type 2 inflammation, with a key role for TH2 cells, but it occurs especially in the chronic phase TH1 and TH17 responses as well.2,3 Moderately and severely affected AD patients are particularly prone to bacterial, fungal, and viral infections.
