Consensus of an ACAAI, AAAAI, and ATS Workgroup on Definition of Clinical Remission in Asthma on Treatment
As more and better therapies for the treatment of asthma are developed, the approach to classification of asthma control has been in transition. With the availability of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) as a treatment class came the introduction of control measures utilizing guideline-based criteria, which included validated tools such as the Asthma Control Test (ACT), Baseline Asthma Impairment and Risk Questionnaire (AirQ) and the Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ)1,2,3. Following the addition of long-acting bronchodilator (LABA) therapy, Bateman and colleagues described a measure of total control in the GOAL study, defining a higher level of control4.
