Limitations of the PREHAB Randomized Clinical Trial

To the Editor The authors of the PREHAB trial are to be congratulated on carrying out an interventional study in a field where such studies are extremely challenging to pull off. This is the largest trial on multimodal prehabilitation for colorectal cancer surgery thus far to our knowledge. It is good news that the results, a reduced rate of severe and medical complications, are suggestive of a favorable effect of this intervention on patient outcomes. The authors addressed some important limitations, such as the open-label design and the premature termination due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our opinion is that the authors were too optimistic in interpreting their results, and we would like to get additional clarifications about the design of the trial and the way it was analyzed and interpreted.
