Author's reply: “Mean platelet volume may not be an indicator for prognosis in patients with alcohol use disorder”

We thank Profs. C. Beyan and E. Beyan for their interest [1] in our recently published article, entitled “Mean platelet volume and mortality in patients with alcohol use disorder” [2]. Research in analyzing the clinical meaning of altered platelet volume (MPV) has increased recently, in parallel with the relentless increasing research about platelets’ physiology, especially in relation with infla mmation and/or acute organic stress [3]. In this sense, many authors have found that altered platelet size may be related to inflammation, severity and/or adverse outcome in several clinical conditions, as compiled by Korniluk et al.
