Barriers for Aspirin and Statin Adherence Following Vascular Interventions in Vascular Quality Initiative Participants

Antiplatelet and statin therapy has shown benefit in patients with vascular disease. The Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) Arterial Quality Committee has set a long-range goal of 100% prescribing rate in vascular patients without contraindications. To meet this ambitious requirement, VQI centers have adopted an approach of discharging eligible patients on aspirin (ASA) and statins. Nevertheless, there is currently limited information on follow-up medication adherence. The purpose of this study is to determine ASA and statin compliance in VQI-enrolled patients after vascular interventions, with an additional aim to elucidate barriers for medication adherence.
