Hip geometric parameters are associated with radiographic and clinical hip osteoarthritis: findings from a cross-sectional study in uk biobank

Purpose: Abnormalities in hip shape have been shown to increase risk of hip osteoarthritis (HOA). These can be quantified using geometric parameters (GPs), although the independent effects of these measures are unclear. The aim of this study was to examine the cross-sectional relationships between three GPs and radiographic HOA (rHOA) and hospital diagnosed OA (HESOA), as well as the longitudinal relationships between GPs and total hip replacement (THR) to establish which of these are independent as assessed in mutually adjusted models in a large sample of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans in UK Biobank (UKB).
