Understanding Troponin as a biomarker of myocardial injury – where the path cross with cardiac imaging

Troponin elevation in myocardial injury are a common findings in hospitalised COVID-19 patient. Biochemistry detection of the changes are due to underlying various pathological process. The subclassification of the process require supplemental investigation particularly with cardiovascular magnetic resonance. Late gadolinium enhancement and parametric mapping offer excellent virtual tissue characterization of the pathological process following myocardial insult with excellent histological correlation. The understanding of where the biochemistry and cardiac imaging cross in describing myocardial evolution following COVID-19 infection need to be understood and describe well.
