Determinants Of Stable Pain And Long Acting Opioid Use For Chronic Non-Cancer Related Pain Treatment Over 12 Months

Opioids remain an option for patients with chronic pain and inadequate relief from non-opioid medications or non-pharmacological therapies; however, chronic opioid use can lead to opioid use disorder (OUD). Having information to inform a risk ‐benefit judgment about the likelihood of successful chronic opioid treatment would be useful. We re-analyzed individual participant data from 2464 trial participants in eight studies of long acting oxycodone and hydrocodone to develop a prediction model of maintaining stable or improved pain and opioid doses over 12 months following successful titration to an effective dose.
