Macronutrient composition of term and preterm human milk of different socio economic groups

Human Breast milk (HBM) provides complete nutrition for the infant which contains proteins, carbohydrates, lipids [1], numerous immune substances like antibodies, chemokines, cytokines, growth factors, hormones and immunoglobulins etc. [2]. Proper intake of nutrients in the first year of life is crucial for adequate growth and development of infant and human milk is the sole and essential source of nutrients in the first half of the year [3]. The composition and nutritional profile of milk changes from preterm to term, stages of lactation, and also has diurnal variation [4].
