National study finds lower depression, better mental health during the Great Recession

(University of Maryland) Americans had fewer depression diagnoses and better mental health during the Great Recession (2007-09) compared to pre-recession, according to a University of Maryland study. Led by Dr. Rada K. Dagher in the UMD School of Public Health, this large, national study also showed that post-recession, women were more likely to be diagnosed with anxiety disorders, while men were less likely to suffer from psychological distress.
