Advances in Endoscopic Surgical Approaches for Sinonasal Tumors

AbstractPurpose of ReviewWith the advance of instruments and techniques, the endoscopic endonasal approach has improved rapidly during the past three decades, especially in the ventral skull base surgery. The purpose of this article was to review the new advances of endoscopic surgical approaches for the treatment of sinonasal tumors.Recent FindingsThere emerged some novel surgical approaches for sinonasal tumor resection, including the endoscopic Denker ’s, prelacrimal, transantral, transseptal, endoscopic, or robot-assisted techniques and a combination of these diverse corridors. The endoscopic approach could provide an adequate exposure to facilitate sinonasal malignancy eradication, achieving similar oncologic outcomes compared with open appro aches. In the scenario of sinonasal tumors involving the adjacent regions, the endoscopic approach may serve as an auxiliary corridor for the employment of a combined approach (e.g., craniofacial approach, midfacial degloving approach, lateral rhinectomy). However, for advanced sinonasal malignancie s, a comprehensive strategy in a combination of surgery with systemic therapy (e.g., chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy) is preferentially recommended.SummaryThe endoscopic surgical approaches for the management of sinonasal tumors have advanced tremendously with the emergence of novel techniques and instruments. However, the role of endoscopic approach for the treatment of advanced sinonasal malignancies is...
