Lactation Curricular Content of Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Programs in the United States: A National Survey

The health benefits of breastfeeding for both parent and child are well documented (Meek et al., 2022; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022a). Meek et al. (2022) states that the normative standard for infant health and nutrition is breastfeeding and human milk. Studies continue to support and document the significant health benefits of breastfeeding for mothers (Feltner et al., 2018) and children (Stoody et al., 2019). Multiple national organizations advocate exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life with recommendations to continue breastfeeding until at least 1 year of age (American Academy of Family Physicians, 2018; American College of Nurse-Midwives, 2018; Busch et al., 2019).
