2022-2023 Virtual NIH Grants Conference and PreCon Events: New Name! New Approach! Deeper Dive!

Reimagine:  to reinterpret (an event, work of art, etc.) imaginatively; rethink If you have followed my blogs through the years, you know I am a huge fan of an NIH event focused on bringing the extramural research community together with NIH experts to share knowledge, perspectives, guidance, and resources on the NIH grants process and policies. The event has evolved through the years in format, reach, and trans-NIH involvement. Each year, I thought its success would be hard to top…yet somehow it happened. For decades it was known as the “NIH Regional Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration.” We capped events at 900 attendees. In 2020, it was hosted online and became the “NIH Virtual Seminar.” Last year, over 15,000 attendees participated, representing every state, and over 100 countries. Yet here we are again…reimagining what it could be…reimagining what it should be. For the past two years, our virtual seminar has spanned four days and included 50 sessions. That is a lot of information for attendees to digest in a short period of time! This year, we thought participants would appreciate the opportunity to get the content over a longer period, allowing time for the information to digest. In addition, by pulling select topics out of the larger conference and sharing them in monthly preconference events, there is the opportunity to dive deeper into issues and build time for additional Q&A, case studies, and conversation.
