Assisted Reproduction in Patients with Cardiac Disease: A Retrospective Review

The National Library of Medicine defines Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) as “any clinical and laboratory techniques used to enhance fertility.” This includes ovulation induction using hormonal therapy; in vitro fertilisation where sperm and egg are combined in-vitro and an embryo is transferred to the uterus; or in-uterine insemination where sperm are injected into the uterus at the time of ovulation. While risks of pregnancy in patients with cardiac disease are well described, the risks of ART in these patients remain largely unreported.
