525 Should We Look For High-Risk Carotid Plaques In Patients With Coronary Artery Calcium?

Introduction: Coronary artery calcium scores (CACs) are being increasingly used for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease. CACs allow for personalized and precise information on the presence and quantity of coronary atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is however a systemic disease, and the increasing ubiquity of cardiac CT potentially allows the opportunity to look for high-risk carotid plaque in patients with CAC as a means of detecting patients also at a high-risk of stroke. We therefore studied an institutional sample of patients that underwent both CT for CAC and carotid MRI.
