Short-term, but not long-term, beneficial effects of concomitant benzodiazepine use on clinical course in patients with schizophrenia

In conclusion, our study indicates that short-term benzodiazepines use is associated with a better clinical course in patients with schizophrenia. Future studies should evaluate the effects of different benzodiazepines use patterns on disease prognosis with longer-term follow-up and prospective methodology and should concomitantly examine psychopathological variables.
