UCSD Extension Classes Options After Rejection
I have taken the classes genetics, immunology, microbiology, Biochemistry One, cell and molecular biology, virology, histology, anatomy and Physiology One and two. I've been rejected from dental schools, and I need to take more classes. AT UCSD, which classes should I take? I'm thinking of medical terminology, pharmacology, clinical hematology, epidemiology, and cancer biology. Is this okay? Should it be more or less than this? I had disability office issues at UCLA extension and my alma... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Quick question re: Berkeley Extension professors
First, sorry, this question is awfully specific, so it's not going to help 99.9% of the people here. I've searched old SDN posts as well as RateMyProfessors, so I've definitely done as much research as I can. There's very limited amount of info, which is why I'm here. I've been out of college for many years, so I need a fresh science LOR. I've missed most of the classes' enrollment deadlines, and my current two options are: 1. Ochem I with Richard Samuelson, or 2. Virology with Aung Chein... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psychiatry research?
Hello everyone. I am an incoming MD/PhD student. Initially I was interested in becoming an infectious disease clinician and doing virology research, which match up nicely. However, I have become very interested in psychiatry. Now I am stuck, because I don't know what to do my PhD in? What would match up nicely with psychiatry? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interesting study re coronaviruses
This study basically shows what Wuhan Institute of Virology was up to in 2015 (approved and funded by NIH and NIAID). The virus they created is eerily similar to COVID -19. Basically what they created was a hybrid virus composed of the original SARS virus with a spike protein of a bat coronavirus. The original... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What specialty are you most interested in so far?
I've always been fascinated with infectious diseases from a virology standpoint and the easy transition into epidemiology and public health opportunities. Just a shame you have to subspecialize after IM and then take a paycut. Psychiatry is also something that's been hovering on my mind lately but I haven't been able to find shadowing opportunities so I'll be waiting until M1 when it'll be easier to find observational opportunities.
