Provisional Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS)
I graduated 1 ½ year ahead of schedule and I'm currently working on my MS in Clinical Psychology. I started in the Spring of 2022 and will graduate in the Summer of 2023. The director of the school clinic is a CBIS. In the Practicum/Clinic course we spend time at the nursing home assessing and speaking with residents some of which have had strokes or even have Aphasia. We give diagnosis under the director's supervision. Would the provisional CBIS look good for medical school apps? Also... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Stroke Compensation?
I was reading PHG compesentation report and the difference between a neurohospitalist w/o a fellowship (364k) vs stroke (441k) was around 80k. My question is where does this difference arise from? Don't most vascular attending work as neurohospitalist so shouldn't the salaries be around the same? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I can't see myself enjoying anything but EM. Is the job market *that* sketchy?
MS-4 taking a research year, so I've finished my clerkships but ERAS is a year away. My dream is EM in a big city with lots of uninsured people, lots of drug ODs, and lots of gun violence. I loved every minute of EM. I looked forward to every shift, and I felt satisfied after each one (it helped that I'm in one of the cities that I'd want to practice in). I also liked stroke consult on Neuro and the CRC on Psych, but that's because both had the ED's intensity. I also liked IP Peds, and I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PM & R work in Department of Neurology with Neuromuscular Board?
Can a PM&R physician who is subspecialty-trained and subspecialty-boarded in Neuromuscular Medicine work in a Neurology department? I imagine that figuring out call may be difficult because PM&R has little to no experience with acute stroke, acute seizure, etc., management. Thoughts? Experiences? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is PM & R Boring?
I'm in the 1st week of my M4 PM&R rotation. I really wanted to like this rotation, and was strongly considering going into PM&R. But so far, it feels pretty boring. Mostly stroke patients. We manage bowel regimens, mostly for constipation. They have neuropathic pain - we start gabapentin. They have HTN - we add on another antihypertensive. The most exciting thing to happen so far was a patient getting an AKI 2/2 TMP-SMX renal toxicity. Overall it's felt like IM-light. The outpatient clinic... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If you couldn ’t do OD anymore, what would you be?
I‘ve had the drive to attend OD since 2015. I was accepted into my top pick (dream come true) and was on my way to completing my first yr. However, my health (had a stroke first semester) kept causing me problems in the spring semester. On top of that, I‘m a mother and my spouse works away half of the month yr round. My health got to the point, that some admins strongly advised a medical leave and to restart my OD1 in the fall. I followed the advice, however; my health isn’t improving and... Post a 2 yr epilepsy fellowship, is general neurology practice (including stroke) viable?
Hello all, I am a PGY-2 neurology resident in the US (a non-US IMG) and intend to do a 2-yr epilepsy fellowship in Canada. However, in my understanding, in Canada, it's tough to come by subspecialist-specific jobs (except stroke), and the demand is for general neurologists. My question is that if I do a 2 yr epilepsy fellowship post-residency, does it diminish my general neurology (including stroke) practice skills? Now I know that a 1-yr- clinical neurophysiology fellowship is the most... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
