Love Is Love Is Love...
I always joke that I live in a town known for 'peace, love and happiness'. It's commonplace to see peaceful protestors for various causes in the center of town, just a part of the local fabric. But the truth is that this small enclave nestled into the Catskill Mountains, famous for a concert or two, rich with creativity, art and progressive thinking, could really adopt a new tagline of 'peace, love and my opinion.' My way. This rolls out regularly from local elections and beyond, to most recently the changing of a school mascot -- which has been the hotbed issue du jour, creating a great deal of divisiveness. I guess 'love...

Drum beats from a one atom thick graphite membrane
Researchers demonstrate the ability to electrically manipulate the vibrations of a drum, of nanometer scale thickness, a million times smaller than that of human hair. These drums vibrate a whopping 100 million times a second -- which cannot be heard by the ear but can be sensed using small circuits. This can be used to make new kinds of mass sensors. Also, new aspects of fundamental physics could be probed in the future.

Study Reveals That Eating 'In Moderation' Is A Fool's Errand
"Everything in moderation" is a common piece of healthy eating advice from slim and sexy celebs, dietitians and other lifestyle gurus. It's a call that's thousands of years old: The ancient Greek poet Hesiod wrote the phrase “moderation is best in all things” in his poem Work and Days, written around 700 BCE, and other philosophers and writers have echoed the maxim ever since.  But just because it’s a saying that has persisted throughout history doesn’t mean it’s right, helpful or useful.  While it sounds like wise advice for anyone who wants a low-key approach to healthy eating...

NYC Welcomes National EMS Memorial Capital-to-Capital Bike Ride with Special Mass to Honor Fallen EMS Providers
Entry 10: Honoring Our 9/11 Heroes in NYC I’ve done this portion of the ride for many years as a Muddy Angel of the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride (NEMSBR) and it remains one of my favorite parts of the ride—cycling through New York City and Times Square with police escorts. As for the weather? Fuhgeddaboudit! It was another cold and windy day, but it didn’t matter as we had the New Yorkers to keep us warm. OK, maybe not so much the New Yorkers themselves, but there were moments when the steam from the sidewalk vents gave me a tingly rush. Seriously, this small Colorado country boy finds the Gotham attitude curiousl...
