Medtronic backs light-based hearing aid maker

Medtronic has participated in a $51 million round of financing for the maker of a hearing aids that converts sound into light. Earlens Corp. Inc.'s system features a behind-the-ear hearing aid that receives sound and converts it into light. The technology then transmits the light to a lens placed atop the ear drum, stimulating a patient's hearing system.
