Diverse pharmacological potential of pyridazine analogs against various diseases
Med Chem. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.2174/1573406419666230913102835. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPyridazinone analogs possess diverse types of pharmacological activities, such as anticancer, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antihypertensive, antisecretory, antiulcer, and other useful pharmacological activities. They also possess cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors, dipeptidyl peptidase inhibitors, phosphodiesterase inhibitors, glutamate transporter activators, adenosine receptor antagonists, serotonin receptors antagonists, lipooxygenase, cholinesterase, vasodilator, and anesthetics. Pyrida...

Extent of Lymph Node Harvest: A Retrospective Cohort Comparison of Intracorporeal Versus Extracorporeal Anastomosis in Right Hemicolectomy
Conclusions: In our experience, ICA has higher lymph node harvest in comparison to ECA. This may improve outcomes and options for adjuvant therapies in malignant indications.PMID:37713300 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2023.0246

Preventing controlled substance diversion in perioperative settings: a narrative review
CONCLUSION: Although awareness of perioperative controlled substance diversion has been improving, there are too few data to suggest an optimal approach. Anesthesia departments will need to work collaboratively with hospital pharmacies and actively select strategies that are reasonable given local resources.PMID:37715047 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-023-02574-4

Effect of early oral carbohydrate intake after elective Cesarean delivery on maternal body temperature and satisfaction: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Early oral carbohydrate intake after Cesarean delivery helped to restore maternal body temperature postoperatively and improve maternal satisfaction. Nevertheless, the clinical importance of these finding is unclear, given that most of the differences were small. In addition, there was no delay in maternal gastric emptying after consumption of a complex carbohydrate beverage in the early post-Cesarean period.STUDY REGISTRATION: www.chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR2000031085); first submitted 13 November 2022.PMID:37715046 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-023-02564-6

Asleep-awake-asleep versus hypnosis for low-grade glioma surgery: long term follow-up outcome
CONCLUSION: Hypnosis for awake craniotomy is rarely proposed although it is a suitable alternative to standard sedation in awake craniotomy for LGGs, with similar results in terms of extent of resection or survival.PMID:37714375 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2023.101494

Associations Between Fresh Gas Flow and Duration of Anesthetic on the Maximum Potential Benefit of Anesthetic Gas Capture in Operating Rooms and in Postanesthesia Care Units to Capture Waste Anesthetic Gas
CONCLUSIONS: Simulations with Gas Man show a strong rationale based on agent uptake and distribution for using volatile anesthetic agent capture in operating rooms if the technology can be highly efficient at volatile agent recovery.PMID:37713332 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006610

Postanesthesia Care Unit Recovery Time According to Volatile Anesthetic Used in Clinical Practice
CONCLUSIONS: In clinical practice, only small, clinically unimportant differences in PACU recovery time were observed between the volatile anesthetics. Although oversedation was associated with increased PACU recovery time, differences in the rate of oversedation among agents were insufficient to produce meaningful differences in overall PACU recovery time across the 3 volatile agents. Practical attempts to decrease PACU recovery time should address factors other than volatile agent selection.PMID:37713329 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006647

The Anesthetic Effects of Lidocaine with Epinephrine in Digital Nerve Blocks: A Systematic Review
J Am Podiatr Med Assoc. 2023 Jul-Aug;113(4):21-066. doi: 10.7547/21-066.ABSTRACTThere is a long-standing stigma associated with the use of epinephrine in digital nerve blocks (DNBs) over the concern of digital necrosis. We conducted a systematic review to assess the duration of anesthesia, onset of anesthesia, and complications of lidocaine with epinephrine compared with plain lidocaine for DNBs in adults. We searched Medline via Ovid, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov on January 28, 2020. We included randomized controlled trials that examined lidocaine with epinephrine 1:80,000 to 1:1,000,000 (1-12.5 µg/mL) and pl...

Sex-Specific Associations Between Preoperative Hemoglobin and Outcomes After Major Noncardiac Surgery: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Low preoperative hemoglobin was associated with a higher risk of complications or mortality after elective noncardiac surgery in both men and women. No differences in the strength of associations between sexes were found. Further studies are needed to assess whether these associations are linear or there are sex-specific thresholds of preoperative hemoglobin concentrations below which postoperative risks begin to increase.PMID:37713328 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006661
