Public health impact of recombinant zoster vaccine for prevention of herpes zoster in US adults immunocompromised due to cancer
This study evaluates the public health impact of recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) relative to no HZ vaccination for the prevention of HZ among adults aged ≥18 years diagnosed with selected cancers in the United States (US). A static Markov model was used to simulate three cohorts of individuals who are IC with cancer (time horizon of 30 years; one-year cycle length): hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients, patients with breast cancer (BC; a solid tumor example), and patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL; a hematological malignancy example). Cohort sizes reflect the estimated annual incidence of each conditio...

This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...

Natural History of Herpes Zoster in the Placebo Groups of Three Randomized Phase  III Clinical Trials
CONCLUSION: The incidence and burden of HZ is high in immunocompetent adults aged ≥ 50 YOA and even more so in HSCT recipients aged ≥ 18 YOA.PMID:36322332 | DOI:10.1007/s40121-022-00689-7

Efficacy of Sinopharm Vaccine among Stem Cell Transplant Recipient during two peaks of Delta and Omicron variants of COVID-19
CONCLUSION: In summary, it seems that Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine adverse effects were not serious among stem cell transplant recipients. However, it may lead to some severe complications in the population. Vaccine failure against the Delta and Omicron variants of COVID-19 has been reported among more than one-third of BMT patients; however, no mortality was observed among BMT patients infected with the new variants of COVID-19.PMID:35927906 | DOI:10.2174/1574886317666220801122822
