Outcomes of Root Enlargement Versus Root Replacement for Aortic Stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: ARE and stentless xenograft ARR for aortic stenosis were associated with comparable postoperative complications, aortic valve reinterventions, freedom from readmission, and 5-year survival.PMID:36584836 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.12.027

Mitral valve surgery via repeat median sternotomy versus right mini ‐thoracotomy: A systematic review and meta‐analysis of clinical outcomes
ConclusionRight MT is a safe alternative to the traditional re-sternotomy for patients who have had previous cardiac surgery. The approach offers a reduced length of hospital stay, ICU stay, and a lower risk of new-onset renal failure requiring dialysis. This review calls for robust trials in the field to further strengthen the evidence.

Females have an increased risk of short ‐term mortality after cardiac surgery compared to males: Insights from a national database
ConclusionFemales in the United Kingdom have an increased risk of short-term mortality after cardiac surgery compared to males. This highlights the need to focus on the understanding of the causes behind these disparities and implementation of strategies to improve outcomes in females.

STratification risk analysis in OPerative management (STOP score) for drug ‐induced endocarditis
CONCLUSIONDrug ‐related IE is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. An easily‐applied risk stratification score may aid in clinical decision‐making.

Comparison of expected and observed outcomes for septal myectomy in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsSeptal myectomy, performed in a tertiary referral center, had a 30-day mortality rate of 0% and low morbidity rate. There was no difference between observed myectomy mortality and STS Calculator predicted risk for AVR and MV repair. It is possible that a larger sample could reveal lower mortality than STS prediction.

A Multi Center Experience: Is Valve Replacement Safe for Patients with Hugely Dilated Left Ventricle?
CONCLUSION: Valve replacement in patients with hugely dilated left ventricle are safe operations with satisfactory outcomes even if combined with other procedures, especially with proper preoperative preparation, intraoperative preservation of posterior mitral leaflet, and meticulous postoperative follow up in the surgical ICU. Aortic Valve Replacement in Bioprosthetic Failure:Insights from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database
ConclusionsThe number of patients undergoing SAVR for degenerated bioprosthesis is decreasing in U.S, particularly among older and high-risk patients. These trends may reflect the adoption of valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve replacement for degenerated bioprosthesis after its FDA approval in 2015.
