Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 245: ISO26262-Compliant Inductive Long-Stroke Linear-Position Sensors as an Alternative to Hall-Based Sensors for Automotive Applications
Kim To ensure safety, vehicle companies require position sensors that maintain accuracy and avoid target loss even in harsh automotive environments. Most vehicle position sensors are Hall-based, but even improved gradiometric 3D Hall sensors using the arctangent operation are vulnerable to external magnetic fields (EXMFs) and encounter difficulty at long-stroke (LS) positions. An ISO26262-compliant inductive position sensor (IPS) employing a 3.5 MHz-induced magnetic field source (much higher in frequency than vehicle–environment EXMFs) is proposed in this study as an alternative. To meet the safety goal, ...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 9891: Improving Inertial Sensor-Based Activity Recognition in Neurological Populations
This study proposes a novel framework to overcome the challenge of creating rich and diverse datasets for HAR in neurological populations. The framework produces images from numerical inertial time-series data (initial state) and then artificially augments the number of produced images (enhanced state) to achieve a larger dataset. Here, we used convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures by utilizing image input. In addition, CNN enables transfer learning which enables limited datasets to benefit from models that are trained with big data. Initially, two benchmarked public datasets were used to verify the framework. A...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 9872: An Effective Method of Detecting Characteristic Points of Impedance Cardiogram Verified in the Clinical Pilot Study
obotnicki Accurate and reliable determination of the characteristic points of the impedance cardiogram (ICG) is an important research problem with a growing range of applications in the cardiological diagnostics of patients with heart failure (HF). The shapes of the characteristic waves of the ICG signal and the temporal location of the characteristic points B, C, and X provide significant diagnostic information. On this basis, essential diagnostic cardiological parameters can be determined, such as, e.g., cardiac output (CO) or stroke volume (SV). Although the importance of this problem is obvious, we face many challe...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 9347: Efficient Lightweight Multimodel Deep Fusion Based on ECG for Arrhythmia Classification
Elgendy An arrhythmia happens when the electrical signals that organize the heartbeat do not work accurately. Most cases of arrhythmias may increase the risk of stroke or cardiac arrest. As a result, early detection of arrhythmia reduces fatality rates. This research aims to provide a lightweight multimodel based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that can transfer knowledge from many lightweight deep learning models and decant it into one model to aid in the diagnosis of arrhythmia by using electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. Thus, we gained a multimodel able to classify arrhythmia from ECG signals. Our system&a...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 9346: Evaluation of Dynamic Spinal Morphology and Core Muscle Activation in Cyclists & mdash;A Comparison between Standing Posture and on the Bicycle
Conclusions: The lumbar spine changes its morphology from lordosis in standing to kyphosis (lumbar flexion) when pedaling on the bicycle. The sacral tilt significantly increases its anterior tilt when cycling compared to when standing. The spinal morphology and sacral tilt are dynamic depending on the pedal’s position during the pedal stroke quadrants. The infraspinatus, latissimus dorsi, external oblique, and pectoralis major showed significantly higher activation pedaling than when standing, although with very low values.

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 9339: Changes in Forcecardiography Heartbeat Morphology Induced by Cardio-Respiratory Interactions
This study addressed the changes in FCG heartbeat morphology caused by respiration. Two respiratory-modulated parameters were considered, namely the left ventricular ejection time (LVET) and a morphological similarity index (MSi) between heartbeats. The time trends of these parameters were extracted from FCG signals and further analyzed to evaluate their consistency within the respiratory cycle in order to assess their relationship with the breathing activity. The respiratory acts were localized in the time trends of the LVET and MSi and compared with a reference respiratory signal by computing the sensitivity and positive...
