Refining age stratum of the C < sub > 2 < /sub > HEST score for predicting incident atrial fibrillation in a hospital-based Chinese population
CONCLUSION: In a hospital-based Chinese population, by refining the age strata of the original C2HEST score, the mC2HEST score had significantly increased predictive accuracy and discriminative capability for incident AF. The clinical benefits of the application of novel mC2HEST score needs further validation in multiple settings.PMID:33975769 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2021.04.014

Long-term outcomes of postoperative atrial fibrillation following non cardiac surgery: A systematic review and metanalysis.
CONCLUSIONS: POAF is associated with a greater risk of stroke and mortality over the long-term period. Studies focusing on AF recurrence are needed to address the perception of POAF as a benign transient entity. The increased mortality risk following POAF should encourage systematic detection and prevention of this arrhythmia. PMID: 33402281 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Mobile health technology-supported atrial fibrillation screening and integrated care: A report from the mAFA-II trial Long-term Extension Cohort.
CONCLUSION: Amongst AF patients with long term use (≥1 year) of mHealth technology for optimising stroke prevention, symptom control and comorbidity management, adherence/persistence was good and associated with a reduction in adverse clinical outcomes. Trends and outcomes of device-related 30-day readmissions after left ventricular assist device implantation.
CONCLUSION: Over one-fourth of LVAD recipients have 30-day readmissions, with most of them occurring within 15 days. Most frequent cause of readmission was gastrointestinal bleeding, which was associated with the lowest in-hospital mortality among other complications. Hyperuricaemia and gout in cardiovascular, metabolic and kidney disease.
In conclusion, uric acid is emerging as a potentially treatable risk factor for cardiometabolic diseases, and more clinical trials investigating the potential benefit of lowering serum uric acid are recommended in individuals with hyperuricaemia with and without deposition and concomitant hypertension, metabolic syndrome or chronic kidney disease. Safety and efficacy of anticoagulant monotherapy in atrial fibrillation and stable coronary artery disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: OAC monotherapy might have a lower incidence of major bleeding events with no higher overall risk of MACE, ischemic stroke and all-cause mortality compared to the combined therapy group. PMID: 32709546 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The CHA2DS2-VASc score and Geriatric Multidimensional Assessment tools in elderly patients with persistent atrial fibrillation undergoing electrical cardioversion. A link with arrhythmia relapse?
CONCLUSIONS: The CHA2DS2-VASc score significantly correlated with neuro-cognitive performance, depressive symptoms and physical functioning. It was also associated with AF relapse. Accordingly, in the elderly, the CHA2DS2-VASc could help quantify thrombo-embolic risk, give an indication of frailty status and help to choose between a rate- and a rhythm-control strategy. Intermountain chronic disease risk score (ICHRON) validation for prediction of incident chronic disease diagnoses in an australian primary prevention population.
CONCLUSION: ICHRON predicted ChrD diagnosis at 3-years among an external, geographically distant validation cohort. These findings show the value of ICHRON for primary care patients in distinct locales. Additionally, electronic calculation of ICHRON empowers the clinical use of this tool to identify and differentially manage and treat high-risk patients.
