Valacyclovir-associated acute kidney injury and encephalopathy in an elderly woman with normal kidney function: a case report
AbstractA 72-year-old Japanese woman was treated by 3000  mg/day of valacyclovir for the herpes zoster in her left back. She had been treated as hypertension with no renal insufficiency. In two days, she visited an emergency room of a regional stroke care center with dysarthria, dexterity disorder and gait disturbance. Neither head CT nor MRI found intra cranial lesions, then, laboratory tests revealed that her serum creatinine level was 4.63 mg/dL. N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide predicts hospitalization for ischemic stroke in Japanese hemodialysis patients
ConclusionsElevated NT-proBNP level was associated with hospitalization for ischemic stroke, suggesting that NT-proBNP level is a valid biomarker for predicting hospitalization for ischemic stroke in HD outpatients.

Impact of atrial fibrillation on the risk of ischemic stroke in patients on hemodialysis: BOREAS-HD3 Study
ConclusionPresent analyses using comprehensive adjustment for multiple confounders, including prior history of ischemic stroke, indicated that AF independently increases the risk of new-onset of ischemic stroke by more than twofold in Japanese HD patients.

Increased Incident Ischemic Stroke Risk in Advanced Kidney Disease: A Large-Scale Real-World Data Study.
CONCLUSION: Although we found that OAC use was effective and recommended for patients with AF, advanced kidney disease is still an independent risk factor for IS/SE, even in patients taking OAC.
