Conclusions: The detection of abnormal metabolic milieu is a window of opportunity for aggressive management in persons with stroke as this will improve outcome. Routine screening for hyperglycaemia in persons with stroke using glycosylated haemoglobin tests and blood glucose may uncover previously undiagnosed DM.

The impact of Value Incentive Program (VIP) on the quality of hospital care for acute stroke in Korea
Conclusion This study demonstrated that the VIP was effective in improving quality of acute stroke care. The improvement was more prominent in general hospitals, and led to reduced quality gaps among hospitals.

(NYU Tandon School of Engineering) A team of students from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering is using smartphones to improve the process patients must typically undergo to relearn the basic skills they lose after suffering a stroke. The centerpieces are wearable mechatronic devices that are connected inexpensively by a smartphone. When a patient performs an exercise assigned by a physician or physical therapist, microcontrollers quantify the action and display the information via smartphone to the patient and medical providers.

Fasting Serum Glucose and Cholesterol as Predictors of Cardiovascular Reactivity to Acute Stress in a Sample of African American College Students.
CONCLUSIONS: FSG was a better predictor of cardiovascular reactivity to stress than serum cholesterol concentration, predicting mean arterial pressure and stroke volume. UTSA student wins American Heart Association fellowship for nanosystems engineering research
