Motor recovery in post-stroke patients with aphasia: the role of specific linguistic abilities.
CONCLUSIONS: Motor function at admission resulted as the variable that most affects the motor recovery of post-stroke patients with aphasia after rehabilitation. A linguistic test requiring also non-linguistic abilities, including attention and working memory (i.e. Token test) is an independent predictor as well. Efficacy of motor imagery additional to motor-based therapy in the recovery of motor function of the upper limb in post-stroke individuals: a systematic review.
Conclusion. There is evidence showing that MI associated with motor-based therapy is an effective tool in improving the motor function of upper limbs of post-stroke individuals. Effects of Inspiratory Muscle Training on Respiratory Muscle Strength, Trunk Control, Balance and Functional Capacity in Stroke Patients: A single-blinded randomized controlled study.
Conclusions: As a conclusion, the IMT, which was given in addition to the neurological physiotherapy and rehabilitation program to our patients, improved inspiratory muscle strength and trunk control. We believe that this result will raise awareness for physiotherapists working in the field of neurological rehabilitation about including respiratory muscle training in the rehabilitation program of stroke patients. What is the effect of additional physiotherapy on sitting balance following stroke compared to standard physiotherapy treatment: a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: The current evidence supports strategies that target deficits at the activity level and increase total treatment time. The TIS is most responsive as a measure of treatment efficacy. Hand robotics rehabilitation: feasibility and preliminary results of a robotic treatment in patients with hemiparesis.
Conclusions. This original rehabilitation treatment could contribute to increase the hand motor recovery in acute stroke patients. The simplicity of the treatment, the lack of side effects, and the first positive results in acute stroke patients support the recommendations to extend the clinical trial of this treatment, in association with physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy. Decision-Making on Referral to Primary Care Physiotherapy After Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation
Worldwide, stroke is a leading cause of death and disability.1 Although incidence rates are expected to increase over the next few decades, survival rates are expected to improve. Consequently, more stroke survivors will have to learn to live with the consequences. After acute stroke care or rehabilitation, returning home is one of the primary goals for stroke survivors.2 In the Netherlands, 65 % of stroke survivors return home immediately after acute hospital care.3 The remaining 35% continue inpatient rehabilitation in a rehabilitation center (RC) or geriatric rehabilitation center (GRC) before returning home.
