First-Ever Ischemic Stroke In Covid-19: How Is It Different? - A Stroke Registry-Based Study From South India

However, they did not distinguish first-ever ischemic strokes (F-AIS). Therefore, we aimed to study the incidence, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of a cohort of F-AIS associated with COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic and compare this cohort with those of F-AIS without COVID-19, COVID-19 without stroke. We also sought to compare the stroke admissions and mechanisms during the pandemic and immediate prepandemic periods.PMID:37723911

Outcome of COVID-19 & #8211;Associated Acute Stroke: A Study from South India
Conclusion: Poor outcomes were relatively higher among acute stroke patients with concomitant COVID-19 infection. In the present study, we established the independent predictors of poor outcome to be onset of COVID-19 symptoms (<5 days) and elevated levels of CRP, D-dimer, interleukin-6, ferritin, and Ct value ≤25 in acute stroke.

Neurological manifestations in COVID-19 in three waves of the pandemic: An inpatient study from India
Conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 produces many central and peripheral nervous system manifestations. Encephalopathy was more common in first wave while acute symptomatic seizures were more common in third wave. Encephalopathy was most common neurological manifestation with progressively higher mortality with increased number of systemic comorbidities. Ischemic stroke was seen in patients who had vascular risk factors as well as in patients without them.

Spectrum of Neurological Manifestations of COVID-19 Data from a Tertiary Care Hospital
Conclusions: COVID-19 usually presents as a respiratory disease. The neurological manifestations of COVID-19 are not uncommon. One should be aware of a wide spectrum of neurological signs and symptoms of COVID-19 for early diagnosis and treatment for preventing mortality and morbidity.

COVID-19 and Stroke Trends in A Tertiary Care Center from South India -Our Monsoon Experience
Conclusion: Our study was a hypothesis-generating study with a limited number of patients. This study has reconfirmed the higher severity of the stroke, with a higher mRS score and mortality during the pandemic, especially among COVID-19-positive stroke patients.

The spectrum of Neuro-COVID: A study of a comprehensively investigated large cohort from India
Conclusion: Stroke and encephalopathy constitute the most common neurological manifestations. The absence of preceding COVID-19 symptoms in nearly half the cases is striking. Poor outcome was seen in nearly 50% despite early recognition and management.

Conclusions: This study highlights the presence of FFT causing LVO as a new stroke subtype during the COVID-19 pandemic. With renewed and steeper spike in COVID-19 cases, especially new variants, the resurgence of this stroke subtype needs to be actively explored early in the course of illness to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Conclusion: The ongoing pandemic will continue to pose challenges to both physicians and patients. Patients in follow-up may need to be contacted regularly and counselled regarding the importance of maintaining drug compliance. Telemedicine can be used to strengthen the healthcare delivery to patients with non-COVID illnesses.
