Global cognitive performance at 4-year follow-up in individuals with atrial fibrillation —findings from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing
ConclusionIndividuals with AF were more likely to show an increase in rate of errors between waves 1 and 3 (4-year follow-up period) in the TILDA population; however, results were not significant when controlling for age, sex and level of education.

Aging related functional and structural changes in the heart and aorta: MitoTEMPO improves aged-cardiovascular performance.
Abstract Aging in humans represents declining in cardio-protective systems, however its mechanisms are not known yet. We aimed to analyse how aging affects key mechanisms responsible for contractile dysfunction via comparing the improperly synchrony between electrical and mechanical activities in male aged-rats (24-month old) comparison to those of adult-rats (6-month old). We determined significantly increased systemic oxidative stress with decreased antioxidant capacity, clear insulin resistance and hypertrophy in aged-rats with normal fasting blood glucose. We also determined significantly high level of reactiv...

Incident Atrial Fibrillation and Disability‐Free Survival in the Cardiovascular Health Study
ConclusionThese results suggest that AF is a risk factor for shorter functional longevity in older adults, independent of other risk factors and comorbid conditions.

AF is associated with self-reported syncope and falls in a general population cohort
Conclusions: adults aged 50+ with self-reported syncope and adults aged 65–74 years with falls are twice as likely to have AF at physical examination. These associations are independent of stroke, cardiovascular and psychotropic drugs and other confounders. Further longitudinal studies are needed to explore this association and potential causality further.

Evidence of an Association between Age-Related Functional Modifications and Pathophysiological Changes in Zebrafish Heart
Conclusion: These data suggest that cardiac functional modifications in zebrafish are comparable to those in humans and may partly be due to changes in the cardiovascular system including cardiac fetal gene reprogramming, myocardial density, and epicardial vessel dimensions.Gerontology
