Technical tips and clinical experience with the Terumo Relay ®Branch aortic endovascular graft
J Cardiovasc Surg (Torino). 2023 Feb;64(1):26-32. doi: 10.23736/S0021-9509.22.12552-8.ABSTRACTAdvances in thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) are enabling the treatment of increasingly proximal pathology. While the practice of vascular surgery has thus far been mostly limited to TEVAR in zone 2 or more distally, there are emerging devices for zone 1 and zone 0 repair that do not require any further arch debranching compared with a zone 2 repair. Moreover, such devices set forth repair options for patients unable to tolerate the insult of open surgery. One zone 0 device under evaluation is the Terumo Relay®Branch (...

Comparison of long-term outcomes between off-pump and on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting using Japanese nationwide cardiovascular surgery database
ConclusionsOPCAB is associated with early prognostic benefits; however, it might be less favorable outcomes in the long term when patients are older or with incomplete revascularization.

Early Outcomes of Left Subclavian Artery Revascularization Using Castor Single-Branched Stent-Graft in the Treatment of Type B Aortic Dissection or Intramural Hematoma.
CONCLUSIONS: LSA should be revascularized during TEVAR to reduce the incidences of stroke and left arm ischemia. Castor single-branched stent-graft was feasible and safe for treating TBAD or IMH. PMID: 33342930 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Early and Middle-Term Results and Anticoagulation Strategy after Left Atrial Appendage Exclusion Using an Epicardial Clip Device.
CONCLUSION: LAA exclusion using the AtriClip device was a feasible treatment method in terms of its early and middle-term safety and efficacy. In addition, our postoperative anticoagulation strategy could be optimal for maximizing the procedure's merits, although further studies, involving a larger number of patients and longer duration of follow-up, are needed. A Comparative Prospective Observational Study on the Use of Direct Oral Anticoagulants after Cardiac Surgery for the Management of Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: DOAC as anticoagulation therapy for the early intervention of POAF following cardiac surgery is associated with a low incidence of major bleeding; a favorable safety profile and excellent efficacy were demonstrated for DOAC. Furthermore, our results indicate that the safety and efficacy of apixaban and edoxaban are better than rivaroxaban. PMID: 33208579 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Device use for proximal anastomosis on ascending aorta in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical safety of Device use in CABG comparable to No-touch for mortality and morbidity. Hemostasis may be a key issue for accomplishing higher level quality control when devices used in proximal anastomosis of CABG. PMID: 33065052 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical evaluation of a new dispersive aortic cannula.
CONCLUSIONS: The Stealth Flow cannula, which was designed based on our previous experimental study, contributed to reducing cerebral and aortic events as much as the Soft-Flow cannula in the present clinical study. PMID: 32460631 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Silent Valsalva thrombus between the native Valsalva and balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve: multicentre Japanese registry analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Valsalva thrombus was detected in 8.9% of patients following balloon-expandable THV implantation and was common in the LCC, but it did not increase the risk of adverse events after TAVI. PMID: 31746754 [PubMed - in process]

Current status of cardiovascular surgery in Japan, 2015 and 2016: analysis of data from Japan Cardiovascular Surgery Database. 4 ―Thoracic aortic surgery
ConclusionsThe number of operations for thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic diseases has increased, though the rate of operations using an OAR approach has decreased. While TEVAR showed the lowest mortality and morbidity rates, OAR demonstrated the lowest postoperative stroke rate for non-dissecting aortic arch aneurysms.

Differences of patients ’ characteristics in acute type A aortic dissection – surgical data from Belgian and Japanese centers-
It is well known that there are major differences between the Japanese and Western population regarding the incidence of ischemic heart disease and stroke. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences...
