Post-stroke fatigue and its association with poor functional outcome after stroke in young adults
Conclusions Fatigue was very common in young stroke survivors and was associated with a poor functional outcome, even after almost a decade of follow-up.

The severity of cognitive deficits predicts return to work after a first-ever ischaemic stroke
Conclusions The initial cognitive severity of stroke predicts the later inability to return to work. The benefits of neuropsychological assessments within the first weeks after stroke are emphasised.

Feasibility, safety and cost of outpatient management of acute minor ischaemic stroke: a population-based study
Conclusion Outpatient management of clinic-referred minor stroke is feasible and may be as safe as inpatient care. Rates of early hospital admission and recurrent stroke were low and uptake and maintenance of secondary prevention was high.

Socioeconomic deprivation and provision of acute and long-term care after stroke: the South London Stroke Register cohort study
Conclusions Stroke healthcare inequalities in England exist for some important indicators, although overall it has improved over time. The impact of SED may be stronger in black patients than in white patients. Further efforts are required to achieve stroke care equality.

Stroke in Asia: geographical variations and temporal trends
Asian countries are in various stages of epidemiological transition and therefore exhibit a great diversity in disease patterns. Collectively, they comprise almost two-third of the world's total mortality due to stroke. The purpose of this review is to explore existing epidemiological data on stroke, highlight the temporal trends in stroke epidemiology in various regions of Asia and predict future patterns based on these observations. Our search revealed that there is a lack of good epidemiological data from most Asian countries. Whatever data exist are not comparable due to lack of standardised methodology for ascertainin...

Stroke associated with giant cell arteritis: a population-based study
Conclusions This population-based study demonstrated that GCA-related stroke essentially affects the vertebrobasilar territory and mainly occurs in old men with associated vascular risk factors. Although rare, GCA symptoms must be searched for in elderly patients with stroke, and optimal vascular prevention must be conducted carefully in patients with GCA with a high vascular risk before initiating GCA treatment.

Clinical outcome of patients with mild pre-stroke morbidity following endovascular treatment: a HERMES substudy
Conclusions Patients asymptomatic/without disability prior to onset have better outcomes following EVT than patients with mild disability/symptoms. Patients with pre-stroke mRS 1–2, however, more often achieve good outcomes with EVT compared with conservative management. These findings indicate that mild pre-existing disability/symptoms influence patient prognosis after EVT but do not diminish the EVT treatment effect.

Recurrent transient ischaemic attack and early risk of stroke: data from the PROMAPA study
Conclusions According to our results, multiple TIAs within 7 days are associated with a greater subsequent risk of stroke than after a single TIA. Nevertheless, we found no independent predictor of stroke recurrence among these patients.

Variations in acute stroke care and the impact of organised care on survival from a European perspective: the European Registers of Stroke (EROS) investigators
Conclusions This European study demonstrated associations between delivery of care and stroke outcomes. The implementation of evidence-based interventions is suboptimal and understanding better ways to implement these interventions in different healthcare settings should be a priority for health systems.

Impaired perfusion modifies the relationship between blood pressure and stroke risk in major cerebral artery disease
Conclusions Impaired perfusion modified the relationship between blood pressure and stroke risk, although this study had limitations including the retrospective analysis, the potentially biased sample, the small number of critical events and the fact that BP was measured only as a snapshot in clinic.

An early prediction of delirium in the acute phase after stroke
Conclusions A model including age, stroke severity, stroke subtype and infection can be used to identify patients who have a high risk to develop delirium in the early phase of stroke.

The association between delays in screening for and assessing dysphagia after acute stroke, and the risk of stroke-associated pneumonia
Conclusions Delays in screening for and assessing dysphagia after stroke, are associated with higher risk of SAP. Since SAP is one of the main causes of mortality after acute stroke, early dysphagia assessment may contribute to preventing deaths from acute stroke and could be implemented even in settings without access to high-technology specialist stroke care.

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging: a new tool to identify cardioaortic sources in ischaemic stroke
Stroke of undetermined aetiology or ‘cryptogenic’ stroke accounts for 30–40% of ischaemic strokes despite extensive diagnostic evaluation. The role and yield of cardiac imaging is controversial. Cardiac MRI (CMR) has been used for cardiac disorders, but its use in cryptogenic stroke is not well established. We reviewed the literature (randomised trials, exploratory comparative studies and case series) on the use of CMR in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with ischaemic stroke. The literature on the use of CMR in the diagnostic evaluation of ischaemic stroke is sparse. However, studies have demonstrat...

Duration of symptomatic stroke and successful reperfusion with endovascular thrombectomy for anterior circulation large vessel occlusive stroke
Conclusion In a real-world cohort of acute ischemic stroke patients with anterior circulation occlusion treated with endovascular therapy, longer duration of symptomatic stroke is associated with lower rates of successful reperfusion and reperfusion on the first pass.

Predicting independent survival after stroke: a European study for the development and validation of standardised stroke scales and prediction models of outcome
Conclusions Living alone before the stroke was not significantly associated with independent survival after the stroke. Five variables (excluding living alone, from the SSV) provided good prediction for all populations and subgroups. Further external validation for our estimates is recommended before utilisation of the model in practice and research.
