Design of a Compact, Bimorph Deformable Mirror-Based Adaptive Optics Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope.
Authors: He Y, Deng G, Wei L, Li X, Yang J, Shi G, Zhang Y Abstract We have designed, constructed and tested an adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) using a bimorph mirror. The simulated AOSLO system achieves diffraction-limited criterion through all the raster scanning fields (6.4 mm pupil, 3° × 3° on pupil). The bimorph mirror-based AOSLO corrected ocular aberrations in model eyes to less than 0.1 μm RMS wavefront error with a closed-loop bandwidth of a few Hz. Early retinal inflammatory biomarkers in the middle cerebral artery occlusion model of ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This work demonstrates that there is a robust inflammatory response in the eye following MCAO, which may contribute to a worsening of retinal injury and visual impairment. These results mirror what has been observed in the brain after MCAO, suggesting a conserved inflammatory signaling response to ischemia in the central nervous system. Imaging of the eye may therefore serve as a useful non-invasive prognostic indicator of brain injury after MCAO. Future studies are needed to determine whether this inflammatory response is a potential target for therapeutic manipulation in retinal ischemia. PMID: 27293375 ...

Statistical analysis of ocular monochromatic aberrations in Chinese population for adaptive optics ophthalmoscope design

It is necessary to know the distribution of the Chinese eye’s aberrations in clinical environment to guide high-resolution retinal imaging system design for large Chinese population application. We collected the monochromatic wave aberration of 332 healthy eyes and 344 diseased eyes in Chinese population across a 6.0-mm pupil. Retinal pathology in idiopathic moyamoya angiopathy detected by optical coherence tomography
Conclusion: Our results indicate that even patients with moyamoya angiopathy who do not have obvious retinal abnormalities have retinal abnormalities. These can be detected by spectral domain optical coherence tomography, and the association of ONH abnormalities with the vascular changes may suggest that idiopathic moyamoya angiography is a systemic disease involving abnormalities of the early mesodermal development.

The tos study control data: how well do neurology in-patients recall being examined and does it matter?
Conclusions Although recall bias is a potential problem for the TOS score, this control data indicates that it should not be seen as a significant issue and does not negate the findings of our previous data collection that large numbers of in–patients with neurological problems are not been appropriately examined. TOS scores provide a method of quantifying the thoroughness of neurological examination and we are at present in the process of organising a multicentre study in six countries using TOS scores to establish how widespread this problem is globally.
