Direct comparison of rapid deployment versus sutureless aortic valve replacement: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: AVR using RD valve was associated with better valve hemodynamics in terms of the MPG than AVR using SU valve, and better outcomes were observed in the RD group regarding PPI. Procedural times were longer in AVR using RD valve than SU valve. Early clinical outcomes showed no difference between RD and SU valve.PMID:34012571 | PMC:PMC8107528 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-20-3548

Right anterior mini thoracotomy approach for isolated aortic valve replacement: Early outcomes at a Canadian center
ConclusionThe sternum-sparing RAMT approach can be safely integrated into surgical practice as a minimally invasive alternative for isolated AVR, and can reduce postoperative bleeding and narcotic requirements.

Late-Breaking Data at ACC.21 Show XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) Plus Aspirin Significantly Reduced Total Ischemic Events in Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Patients After Lower-Extremity Revascularization
RARITAN, N.J., May 16, 2021 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today presented new data from the Phase 3 VOYAGER PAD study which showed XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) (2.5 mg twice daily) in combination with aspirin (100 mg once daily) consistently reduced severe vascular events in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) after lower-extremity revascularization (LER) compared to aspirin alone regardless of whether it was the first, second, third, or subsequent event. The primary results of VOYAGER PAD showed that XARELTO® plus aspirin reduced first events by 15 percent among patients with PAD ...

New oral anticoagulants versus warfarin in atrial fibrillation after early post-operative period in patients with bioprosthetic aortic valve
CONCLUSIONS: In real-word, NOACs use overcomes the indications provided by guidelines. This study evidenced that NOACs use in patients who developed AF after bioprosthetic AVR was more effective in prevention of thromboembolism and safe in reduction of major bleeding events compared to warfarin.PMID:33744222 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.03.016

Risk Factors for Postoperative Pacemaker Implantation After Rapid Deployment Aortic Valve Replacement: Results from the RADAR Registry
ConclusionInitial experience with rapid deployment aortic valve replacement in the RADAR Registry demonstrates low rates of implantation complications and good perioperative and 1-year clinical and echocardiographic outcomes. Incidence of postoperative AV block requiring a pacer correlated with low weight and preoperative arrythmias (atrial fibrillation, bifascicular block and left bundle branch block). Avoidance of oversizing and careful consideration of implantation of this technology in patients with pre-existing arrythmias could minimize the risk for postoperative pacemaker implantation.

General Anesthesia Increased the Risk of Atrial Fibrillation and Acute Kidney Injury in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
CONCLUSION: GA was associated with higher rates of ICU admission, postoperative AKI, and new-onset AF. The results may provide new evidence that CS challenges universal GA.PMID:33635259 | DOI:10.1532/hsf.3361
