Conclusions: A standardized pre-operative evaluation protocol in combination with prophylactic amiodarone in appropriate patients was associated with lower overall complications and a reduction in post-operative AF and LOS. Standardized protocols may enable health care providers to optimize pre-operative management of elective surgery patients and improve care quality and outcomes.

Prevalence and impact of carotid disease in adult Saudi patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery on early postoperative outcome
The aim of the study is to assess the prevalence of carotid disease in our Saudi population undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery and to determine its impact on stroke and early postoperative outcome. A total of 3197 consecutive adult patients underwent major cardiac surgery in our center between January 2002 and December 2012. Of these, 3150 had preoperative duplex scanning, and out of these, 210 patients (6.6%) had significant carotid artery disease defined as ≥75% stenosis (Group A), whereas 2940 (94.4%) were free from carotid artery disease (Group B). Short-term clinical outcomes between intermittent cold versus intermittent warm blood cardioplegia in 2200 adult cardiac surgery patients.
CONCLUSION: The comparison of IWC and ICC blood cardioplegia in different cardiosurgical procedures showed no statistical significant difference in myocardial protection. The use of ICC, however, appeared overall associated with a slightly better clinical outcome except in patients undergoing urgent/emergent CABG where IWC led to a reduction in 30--day--mortality.

Hybrid coronary revascularization versus coronary artery bypass grafting for multivessel coronary artery disease: systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion:
Our meta-analysis indicates that HCR is feasible, safe and effective for the treatment of MCAD, with similar in-hospital and one-year follow-up outcome, significantly lower requirement of RBC transfusion, and faster recovery compared with CABG.

Conclusions: OPCAB compared with CCAB may improve outcomes in the short-term (stroke, renal dysfunction, blood transfusion, respiratory failure, atrial fibrillation, wound infection, ventilation time, and length of stay). However, over the longer-term, OPCAB may be associated with reduced graft patency, and increased risk of cardiac re-intervention and death.

9. Prevalence and impact of carotid disease in adult Saudi patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery on early post-operative outcome
Conclusion The Presence of carotid artery disease in Saudi patients undergoing cardiac surgery is associated with increased prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, cerebro-vascular accidents and peripheral vascular disease. It is also a major determinant of adverse outcome after coronary surgery.

Safety and efficacy of miniaturized extracorporeal circulation when compared with off-pump and conventional coronary artery bypass grafting: evidence synthesis from a comprehensive Bayesian-framework network meta-analysis of 134 randomized controlled trials involving 22 778 patients ADULT CARDIAC
CONCLUSIONS
MECC and OPCAB both improve perioperative outcomes following coronary bypass surgery when compared with conventional CABG performed with extracorporeal circulation. MECC may represent an attractive compromise between OPCAB and CECC.

Early operative comparison of two epicardial left atrial appendage occluding systems applied during off-pump coronary revascularisation in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: In a pilot cohort epicardial LAAO during off-pump CABG in patients with persistent AF was performed safely and successfully with an AtriClip device. The TigerPaw System requires technological improvement. It might be useful to adapt the use of the type of occluding device to the LAA morphologic type and target revascularisation vessels to avoid the additional use of a heart positioner or obviate coronary compression.

Atrial fibrillation following aortic valve replacement: impact of perioperative use of intravenous β-blocker
ConclusionsPOAF frequently occurred in patients undergoing AVR, and was significantly related to prolonged ICU stay and postoperative stroke. Our findings show that advanced age and absence of preoperative β-blocker usage are risk factors for POAF. Furthermore, in patients undergoing AVR, perioperative intravenous β-blocker administration may be useful for prevention.

Should We Ablate Atrial Fibrillation During Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Aortic Valve Replacement?
Conclusions Concomitant AF ablation in patients with AF undergoing CABG or AVR or both does not increase perioperative rates of mortality or morbidity. Moreover, concomitant AF ablation is effective at reducing postoperative AF burden and increases mid-term AF-free survival.

Comparison of Levosimendan versus Dobutamine in Patients with Moderate to Severe Left Ventricular Dysfunction Undergoing Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Randomized Prospective Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Levosimendan was associated with statistically significant increase in indices of contractility (CI, LVSWI, and RVSWI) and decrease in PCWP during and after OPCAB. Levosimendan group had lower incidence of atrial fibrillation, shorter length of ICU, and hospital stay.
