Is it safe to perform total arterial grafting in elderly patients lacking vein grafts? A single surgeon comparison
ConclusionsThere were no significant differences in major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events, re-intervention rate, hospital or long-term mortality between CO-CABG and TA-CABG. TA-CABG represents a safe and feasible alternative to CO-CABG in elderly patients offering good long-term outcomes.

Carotid doppler indices do not predict fluid responsiveness in mechanically ventilated patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery
ConclusionsCarotid doppler indices are unreliable to assess fluid responsiveness, and cannot replace invasive methods of analyzing preload optimization. There was no significant correlation between carotid doppler-derived indices and alterations in SVI before and after the fluid bolus.

On ‐ versus off‐pump CABG in octogenarians: A propensity‐matched analysis from the UK National Database
ConclusionThe data show similar in-hospital mortality in octogenarians regardless of the revascularization technique used. Off-pump when compared with on-pump CABG is associated with a lower incidence in postoperative neurological events but a higher need for renal dialysis.

ConclusionsAlthough no single best surgical revascularisation approach in ACS patients was identified, the significant mortality benefit with OPCAB seen with AMI suggests high acuity patients may benefit most from avoiding further myocardial injury associated with cardiopulmonary bypass and cardioplegic arrest.

ConclusionsProphylactic LVAD is a viable technique in select cardiac surgery patients who are high-risk for postcardiotomy shock. Further prospective study is warranted.
